PJ came to us when he was a tiny chihuahua puppy, about 12-13 years ago. PJ's mom had gotten loose from her yard, we found her, and returned her to her home. Her owners were thankful, especially since she had just had a litter of puppies! The owners thanked us for returning her by giving us one of the puppies! PJ was the runt of the litter and just the cutest, so we just couldn't NOT choose him!
To make another long story short, my grandma ended up getting PJ's brother, Max. My grandma lived with us so the two brothers were fortunate to grow up together.
In case you're wondering what PJ stands for... when my mom was young, she had a chihuahua named Pepe. So PJ is short for Pepe Junior. Even though Pepe Junior was not at all related to Pepe, it was the perfect name for the sweetest dog.
This post today is in memory of our sweet PJ, who died this morning. It has hit me hard and am reminded that losing a family pet is like losing a member of the family. PJ wasn't healthy and had been diagnosed with congestive heart failure. Fortuneatly, Donal and I had made a trip down to my parents house a few weekends ago and at that time, we knew that this would happen soon, so I was able to say my goodbye in a few quiet minutes that I had alone with him.
Even though Max was the one that was hit by a car almost 2 years ago, he is still going strong and will probably live another 10 years! At this point, I'm sure he's wondering where his brother is... if only we could tell him and if he only he could understand... PJ is gone and running in the clouds of doggy heaven with his brother Zach. We will miss you so much PJ.

Ohhhh I'm so sorry!!!! I just emailed you asking about him!!!! :( He was a cutie!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about this loss - it's hard when a dog is like one of the family - you grew up with him! Glad you were able to see him recently and remember all the happy times with him. :)
